I went for an iron infusion - I was given a list of clear instructions to follow and told to come well hydrated and having eaten beforehand. When I arrived, my nurse talked me through what the procedure would look and feel like and what to expect, and what side effects (such as feeling itching) I should immediately get her attention for. I felt very well informed.
Unfortunately I was unable to have the procedure done because my veins were too small and fragile, but the staff were really excellent - my nurse tried for a very long time to find the best vein possible before making an attempt, including calling in a doctor for advice, and they tried twice to get the infusion done so the visit wouldn't be in vain. Sadly both attempts were unsuccessful, and she explained that they would stop here as it was very very unlikely to succeed on a third attempt and they did not want it to be traumatic or painful for me. Afterwards she explained to me what the alternative options could be for me to get the infusion done in the future, using more complex hospital equipment. I am very thankful for the professional and kind staff in handling a difficult situation!
